Haven’t written anything in a couple of weeks, and I’ve got a few spare minutes so I figured I’d get a quick post in. Round 4 of the Timey-Wimey in Vela Mine(y) campaign happened last weekend, and was a blast. Due to some last minute things, it was only myself and three of the regulars, so we played one big multi-player version of the Cargo Run scenario.
Now, I gotta say, I’ve been drawn to the Ash Wastes setting for Necromunda since I first started playing, and got especially excited when the actual official expansion was released. One reason why is that I LOVE the Mad Max universe, just obsessed with it, and I was like “Oh hell yeah! Mad Max in Necromunda! Let’s goooo!” That being said, I felt like it has taken a few years of playing games set in the Wastes to finally have a game that genuinely feels like it could be something out of Fury Road. This last game was finally that.
As the arbitrator, I was playing a Tri-Sun Mining Corporation (TSMC) convoy trying to escape a collective ambush by the other three players. Not that those players were actually working together mind you, as they started shooting each other pretty much as soon and as frequently as they shot me.
The game went really badly for the first round (for me, I mean it was great for everyone shooting me!), and I lost just about everyone who was riding on one of my vehicles, including my Alpha, two Acolyte hybrids, and a few regular Neophytes. Not a good start.
However, the goliath truck (so for Necromunda, a rockgrinder, just minus the rockgrinder part for now) I had the precious cargo in? I’d given it several upgrades, including a nitro booster. I had the crew just put the pedal to the metal and bee-line it. Meanwhile I’ve got enemies jumping onto the bed of the truck, stealing cargo. I’ve got my ridge-runner blasting away gangers on rocket powered skateboards who are trying to attach bombs to the truck. My neophytes on dirtbikes are weaving in and out of this chaotic high-speed destruction derby, sacrificing themselves to take the bullets and plasma meant for the truck. Seriously, it was one of the most cinematic games I’ve played in a long time. Even managed to squeak out a close-shave victory at the end, as the truck escaped into the failing light and dust plumes, leaving many a twisted wreck and burning corpse in its wake.
Here’s the truck in question, managed to get it finished just in time for the game.

On a different note, I also finished up these two guys for Negative Space 28. If you haven’t heard of it, it’s a miniature agnostic grim dark sci-fi skirmish game developed by Morgvl (IG: @grim_hive__28). The galaxy has been sucked into a giant black hole, and now the survivors on the other side inhabit a dying universe devoid of stars but full of horrific alien threats and equally desperate survivors willing to do whatever it takes to live another day. It is pretty heavily inspired by the Alien movies and other sci-fi of the 70s-90s. I haven’t played it yet, but just looking through the art and seeing the minis folks have put together for it inspired me to bash these two guys together.
